Queens solver, with hints that explain why
Stuck on today's Queens? Pick the board size, paint each colour region, then tap Hint for one crown and the reason it has to go there, or Solve for the whole board. It runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. It works the same for Kings, the daily crown puzzle in Crux. Crux is not affiliated with LinkedIn.
The rules
- One crown (or queen) in every row.
- One in every column.
- One in every colour region.
- No two may touch, not even at a corner.
How to solve it yourself
- Start with the smallest region. If it has only one or two squares, its crown is nearly placed.
- If every square of a region sits in one row, that row belongs to the region: cross out the rest of the row. The same goes for columns.
- If two regions fit entirely inside the same two rows, those two rows are theirs: cross out every other square in them.
- Every crown you place crosses out its row, its column, its region and the eight squares around it. Then look again for a region with one square left.
